The Cable Guy Download
Even back then, in the hey-day of customer service, I could never figure out why the TV company could never give you a more specific time as to when they would be at your home to install a service you've already prepaid for.
The quote "The service tech will be at your home between 8 am and 12 noon", just doesn't cut it in today's fast past lifestyles. Not when normally its both Father and Mother working to make ends meet at home.
A few years ago I remember calling the Satellite TV company I'd just went online and ordered service through and sure enough I got the between 8:00 am and Noon answer.
Understand, I had to be at work during all of those hours so I asked, and very politely I may add, if she wouldn't mind giving me a little closer time estimate on the arrival time.
There was a long silence, as I remember, and then a long sigh coming from the once polite lady on the other end of the phone line. The next thing I know I get this long and "crisp" lecture as to why I had to just wait until the service man arrived... To be blunt, the lady was very rude!
My very first thought, after being completely surprised by her sudden change in attitude was to tell her to switch me to someone where I could just cancel my Satellite TV order, because frankly I didn't want to pay a company my hard earned money who allowed the representatives to speak to me in such a manner... However, I kept mum about it.
In fact I apologized, not sure what I said I was sorry about, but I recall biting my tongue and apologizing, because in those few seconds of receiving my tongue lashing, and just before I decided to cancel my Satellite TV order, I remembered that this was the ONLY source for us to see more than three local channels!... I was stuck with what I could get, to tell you the truth.
My wife and I live several miles outside of the city limits in what would be considered a rural area. Cable TV didn't come our way and our antenna only brought in three local stations, and not all that clearly to be honest.
I had to settle for Satellite TV and this company was running a special set-up at the time that would save me some pretty good money - So I settled, and put up with lousy customer care.
I ended up asking a trusty worthy neighbor to let the service guy into my home and call me when they arrived so I could leave my job and come sign the paper work.
That was pretty much the same thing I wanted to do through the Satellite company, which was leave my phone number with the installer and have him call me when he was heading toward my home.
Those were days of the past. When I thought I was lucky to get 500 channels, 200 or so of which were music channels anyway. I thought I was lucky to get their limited time special rate too for those channels.
It didn't matter that I'd be paying that bill every single month, year after year after year, because everyone did. Over the course of a few short years that adds up to thousands of dollars I was spending with this company, only to be treated as an inconvenience by their sales representative.
Today, with Satellite TV via your personal computer you don't have to wait on the TV installer. As with other digital products and serves that have been created via the digital age TV to your PC is a simple download.
Today, with Satellite TV to your PC or Laptop, there are no monthly fees because just like the one time download; it's also a one time payment to get set up to watch TV on your PC. There are currently over 4,000 Satellite TV channels from all around the world that are available.
TV to PC is clear and vibrant and you can even watch on your regular TV. It's as simple as connecting an "S" cable from your computer to any TV in your home. Most of all, you don't have to wait for the cable guy... Now that's what I call a technological improvement.
