Month Of The Year
Charles Kassotis
Many people think of holiday wreaths as the kind that you see around Christmas time. This, however, need not be the case. With a little creativity, it is possible to create wreaths for any holiday, ensuring that you have a different wreath for each month of the year. This can be a lot of fun, and it can also be a great way to spruce up the way your home looks, giving it a festive and unique touch. Wreaths create an air of welcome in a home, and they also make great conversation pieces for guests to make use of when they visit your home.
Here are months and their main holidays, as well as ideas for wreaths, that you can use to make your own creations. Making your own wreath can be rather inexpensive, but some people do not have the time or the inclination to make wreaths. It is possible to purchase ready-made wreaths online or at the local craft or department store.
January: This is a snowy month whose major holiday is New Year. You can create a wreath around the idea of a snowman (center him in the middle of your wreath) and snow. Wooden snowflakes, or even slivery-blue bells, can decorate. Sprinkle with ample glitter. Or you can go with a New Year motif, a softened one that involves an inspirational message about the upcoming year.
February: Valentine's Day, of course! Pink, reds, and lavenders. Hearts to decorate, and maybe some cupids. This is a fun wreath that many like to make.
March: A St. Patrick's Day wreath can be a great deal of fun to make, even if you are not Irish! Shamrocks can be used, as can representations of gold coins and rainbows (and little leprechauns. And, of course, your wreath should contain ample amounts of green.
April: This is the month in which Easter usually falls. Eggs, bunnies, and chicks make good decorations. If you don't want to do something particularly ?Easter-ish,? go with a spring idea including colored ribbons and wooden flowers (tulips are good).
May: Pay tribute to mothers with a lovely wreath that includes a message of love toward mothers. Silk flowers and ribbons are great for such wreaths, and they are excellent for May.
June: Fathers do much for us, and you can make a wreath expressing that fact. Use bold colors, and you can even incorporate neckties into your wreath for a unique and fun touch.
July: Show your patriotism with a Fourth of July wreath. Using fake flowers in red, white, and blue is perfect. Additionally, use the proper colored ribbons and fabric in your Fourth of July wreath. Also, don't forget to get a couple small American flags to include.
August: Summer is wrapping up, along with all of its activities. You can make a summer wreath from an old garden hose and decorate it with twigs and leaves, and even an old straw hat.
September: Welcome fall with a wreath using a harvest theme. Colored leaves (you can get fake colored leaves easily), wheat stalks, and raffia bows accent this wreath.
October: Halloween! Create a black and orange homage to Halloween. Use witches, ghosts and grinning Jack-o-Lanterns.
November: A theme of plenty. You can incorporate wheat stalks with imitation fruits and vegetables, along with orange flowers, like sweet Williams and marigolds.
December: Go with a Christmas wreath that you enjoy.
