Well-known for her appearances on shows such as Nip/Tuck, One Tree Hill and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, television and film actress Sophia Bush bagged no less than three of this year's Teen Choice Awards, giving her a handy selection of surfboards to carry home. She was previously nominated in 2005 and 2006 for her role as Brooke Davis in the teen drama series One Tree Hill, though in an unusual twist this year, she didn't win any of her awards for the show. Instead, she won Choice Breakout Female in a Movie, Choice Actress in a Comedy Movie for John Tucker Must Die, and Choice Actress in a Horror/Thriller Movie for The Hitcher.
Hosted this year by pop sensation Hilary Duff and actor-rapper Nick Cannon, the Teen Choice Awards was broadcast live last Sunday, August 26 from the Gibson Amphitheater, located in Universal Studios Hollywood. A slew of other awards were also handed out for 30 categories, each winner presented with the traditional surfboard of the ceremony instead of a statuette. Among the others picked by the voting teen public include Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End for Choice Action-Adventure Movie, Hairspray for Choice Summer Comedy/Musical, and High School Musical 2 for Choice TV Movie.
Hairspray's award was received by Hollywood veteran John Travolta, star of classic movie hits such as Grease and Saturday Night Fever, and he likewise called up co-stars Nikki Blonsky and Elijay Kelley to receive the award with him. Other winners that night included Zac Efron and Jessica Alba for Best Male and Female Hotties, Fergie for Best Female Singer, Justin Timberlake for Best Male Artist, plus Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley as Best Movie Actor and Actress for Action-Adventure, thanks to Pirates. There were also a number of live performances, some of them by Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson.
