The Orangemen for the 2008-09 season include sophomore forward Rick Jackson from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, junior guard Andy Rautins from Jamesville New York, senior guard Justin Thomas from Los Angeles California, freshman forward Mookie Jones from Peekskill New York, junior forward Wesley Johnson from Corsicana Texas, senior guard Jake Presutti from Belmont New York, sophomore guard Jonny Flynn from Niagara Falls New York, junior forward Paul Harris from Niagara Falls, New York, senior forward Kristof Ongenaet from Ghent Belgium, junior forward Arinze Onaku from Lanham Maryland, junior guard Eric Devendorf from Bay City Michigan, freshman guard Brandon Reese from Davie Florida, freshman guard Kevin Drew from South Salem New York, freshman forward Kris Joseph from Montreal Quebec, sophomore guard Scoop Jardine from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, sophomore center Sean Williams from Villa Park California.
Assisting the Orangemen with training, guidance, support and leadership are head coach Jim Boeheim, associate head coach Bernie Fine, assistant coach Mike Hopkins and assistant coach Rob Murphy.
Coach Boeheim has a long list of accomplishments with the Orangemen that stress all the way back to making the Orangemen his alma mater. Over the course of many years, Boeheim has continued to make strides and achievements that many can only dream about. Accomplishments such as getting the Orangemen into the Final Four in 1996 and 1987. This season marks Boeheim's 32nd season with the team and it goes as an understatement that everyone is expecting big things from Boeheim.
The Orangemen will continue their games on February 4 against West Virginia at Carrier Dome, on February 7 against Villanova at Wachovia Center, on Feburary 11 against Connecticut at Gampel Pavilion, on February 22 against Villanova at Carrier Dome, on February 24 against St. John's at Madison Square Garden, on March 1 against Cincinnati at Carrier Dome, on March 3 against Rutgers at Carrier Dome, on March 7 against Marquette at Bradley Center and on March 10 to play in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
Statistics for the Orangemen include overall standings of 17 wins, 5 losses and 0 netural games for a percentage of .773 with conference rankings of 5 wins 4 losses and 0 neutral games.
The Carrier Dome is the location for all games that the Orangemen play at home. The 50,000-seat sports arena is conveniently situated at Syracuse University at the campus. Originally opened on September 20, 1980, the facility is not only used by the Orangemen but also by the football, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, track and field and state level competitions for soccer, field hockey along with NBA pre-season games.
The cost for the original Carrier Dome was nearly $27 million. That price included a $2.75 million naming gift from the Carrier Dome. The Dome has held well over 23 million visitors at Carrier events. In 1999, new roof panels were added with a cost of approximately $14 million. The Dome now has state of the art video screens and a modern scoreboard for all to view.
