DOGO...
The Argentino Dogo
Gerry Ronson
Dogs are one of the best pets anyone can introduce into their family. With the many varieties of dog breeds out there it can be hard to choose the correct breed for you. When you are choosing a dog there are several things to look at including a description, training, grooming, and other care of the dog. In this article you will learn about one dog breed, the Argentino Dogo.
The Argentino Dogo is a medium sized dog that is very muscular in stature. This dog is typically white in appearance, with a medium sized snout, and pointed ears. The Argentino Dogo has a long thin tail, and slightly long limbs. The typical height for the Argentino Dogo is 24- 27 inches. They usually weigh 80 to 100 pounds. When you adopt one of this breed you should expect to have them in your life for about ten to twelve years.
You will find the Argentino Dogo offers a loyal temperament. They make wonderful guard dogs for a home. You will find this dog breed tends to be playful, intelligent, and affectionate even around children. Their high intelligence makes them easy to train. When you are working with training the Argentino Dogo you should supply consistency, fairness, and several activities to keep them happy and alert. You will find that without the proper training the adult dog can be aggressive to other dogs and animals. It is important to start early with socialization training. You will also need to start obedience training at an early age. Since they can display a dominant side they are not always great for first time pet owners.
Proper care of any dog is important and with the Argentino Dogo you are going to find the simple white coat with short hair is easy to groom. You usually have to brush away the dead or loose hair once a week. They don't have an odor so bathing them is usually unnecessary. They do need to have their nails clipped on a regular basis. The nails tend to be fast growing and can break easily if not clipped. You will find they are an average shedder, which can keep your house fairly messy without the proper grooming.
You will find the size of the breed demands at least a medium sized backyard for the proper care. This means that they need to have space to run during the day. They do not do well in apartments even with daily exercise. For exercise you should have about an hour a day with running, walking, and general play. Most often if you can afford more time you will find it benefits the dog immensely. They are not very active in doors.
For meals you should give them a daily helping two or three times a day rather than allowing the bowl to just sit around. The routine will help keep them sleek and agile. They do not seem to experience any typical health issues all though any disease is possible under the right conditions. This is why it is very important to have the proper nutrients and exercise.
The Argentino Dogo originated in the 1920's as a pack hunter. They are a mixed breed of Great Dane, Boxer, Spanish Mastiff, Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Great Pyrennes, Pointer, Irish Wolfhound, and Dogue de Bordeauz. The mix is how they came about their characteristics and temperament. The Argentino Dogo if not trained properly and given plenty of care can be a dangerous dog and has been banned in Britain.
