Captain Rob lives the life we can all admire because he walks the walk. He simplified his life, got out of debt, lives on a beautiful sail boat, and does what he wants to do, whenever he wants to do it, whatever the time of day.
Cap says the sail boat is a metaphor for freedom in his life. He doesn't recommend that everyone live on a sail boat, but that if a person wants to be free in whatever way she defines free for herself, then his message will resonate with her.
Cap started out after college in Corporate America for three or four years, then was led to the Homesteading Lifestyle and running his own home based businesses. He was raised in a small family run business atmosphere, so his early life set the stage for where he is, right now.
Disclaimer: we all agreed that there is nothing wrong with Corporate America, but for those of us engaged in the Internet Marketing end of things, Corporate America is antithetical to what or who we aspire to be in this life time.
In Rob's new EBook, "Living The Pirate's Lifestyle," he lays out the steps in logical order of what he did and does to simplify and and get free of debt and dependence on toys and things.
On the show, Rob used the example of credit cards, and getting rid of them entirely.
Or cleaning out all of the unnecessary things in our lives we have not used in 2-3 years.
He suggests taking time off to contemplate exactly what you want out of life, and how you plan to execute your vision.
Then Do It!!
Joan made a comment that in this current economic crisis, slowing down, getting rid of unnecessary "stuff" and thus getting closer to one's core values is perhaps the single most important thing we can "do!"
Joesph Campbell stepped back during the Great Depression and contemplated his life for the years it took for the Great Depression to begin and end, and came up with the famous "Follow Your Bliss" and his great contribution to the application of Myth and Heroic Pathways in modern society!
Rob said he has always been able to see a goal in his mind's eye and drive towards it relentlessly, in a Napoleon Hill sort of way.
He gave the example of driving to Disney World with a car load of kids, and coming up on a roadblock. Would you say, "Sorry everyone, we have to turn around and go home?"
No, you would take the detours and along the way figure out another way to get there.
At this point, Amanda Goldston came on the line, author of the newly published book entitled: "Developing Your Intuition Through Taro."
She said that you don't need a lot of money to live the life of your dreams. By scaling back, and simplifying, you can live on very little money.
This is indeed a revelation!
Joan said she realized she was never going to graduate from life: the "when" this happens, "then" I'll be happy mentality. That "Now" is the only time that there is.
Rob described his life as it is now.
He can work on his internet marketing endeavors, or go fishing all day with the kids. The life of freedom can be as simple as this.
Insightful NaNa came on the line, known for her website: "Better Living For Today's Women."
She said she loved the life of flexibility that the Pirate Lifestyle affords. She can take time off and work in the yard, or play with her grandchildren, then work until 3 am if she wants to.
And she doesn't have to ask anyone's permission!
We discussed some techy issues such as deciding to use Aweber vs 1 Shopping Cart, vs Click Bank vs PayPal, which was tremendously interesting to all of us but perhaps not so much for all of you!
All of us vowed to keep doing what we are doing. Ebooks are a thing of the future that "Writer's Digest" recently validated with a cover story on the topic.
Don't allow the techy hurdles hold you back, the Cap said. Someone is always there to help you.
This show was great food for thought. I recommend that you listen if you want to live the life of your dreams, if you want to work from your home, if you want to escape the Corporate America strangle hold.
The online community is amazing and I am so happy we found each other in this tremendously supportive environment.
