Clip On Electric Fan
Kurt Schefken
Ceiling fans are a great way to circulate air around your home. They can save you money on air conditioning costs if you open your windows and allow the fans to bring in cooler air naturally, rather than turning on your air conditioning unit. Ceiling fans can also be equipped to circulate warm air from the heaters around your home in the winter months. Ceiling fans are a refreshing way to enjoy breezes in the comfort of your own home. You can put the in every room of your house for maximum circulation, or just put them in a few key rooms, for instance the kitchen and the living room. This works especially well if these rooms communicate to one another. It will be nice to keep air circulating between them.
Ceiling fans are usually located in the center of a room. They are often attached to a light fixture, but not always. Some people prefer to keep their lights lateral and do not want them overhead. Fans are a terrific way to spruce up a room because they are generally inexpensive (although you do not want to purchase the cheapest models) and they are easy to install.
You want to choose a fan that is right for your chosen space. Take careful measurements of the room and decide how big and how low you would like your fan to be. If you have a low ceiling, you probably cannot buy the ornate chandelier fan with the low-hanging light fixture. It will make your room feel cramped. With a low ceiling, you want to purchase a fan that sits relatively close to the ceiling. If you have an expansive space to fill up, then by all means choose a large fan. This goes for width as well as depth. Blade spans can range in width from 32 to 56 inches. That is a big variety to choose from.
Most fans come with step by step instructions so you can install them on your own without an electrician to help you. When you buy your fan, take a careful inventory of the parts in the fan's kit. You want to make sure nothing is missing. You do not want to be perched on your step stool, balancing light bulbs in one hand and heavy fan blades in the other only to realize that you are missing the requisite screws for your project.
Fan installation is easy when you have the right tools. You will need a step stool, screwdrivers, wire strippers, a circuit tester, pliers, and the kit that came with your fan. An electric fan can shock you so be sure to turn off the electricity before you get started. If you already have a light fixture overhead where you want to place your fan, then you are in luck. The wiring is already in place. From here, installation will be easy if you follow the step by step instructions in the booklet that came with your fan. You will have your fan up and running in no time flat.
