If you have children, Halloween is a great excuse to have some family fun together. It's an opportunity to dress up the whole family in weird and frightening costumes; and to decorate your normally peaceful home in the out-of-this-world Halloween theme, turning it into a scary haunted house to the delight of your children.
The fun starts each year as Halloween approaches when the family gets together to open all your boxes of decorations that have been stored away from last year. Hairy spiders and their sticky webs, flying witches on broomsticks, vampire teeth, ghosts, ghouls, and all the other great Halloween details are sure to delight children.
Even though most decorations are designed to scare children, the actual decoration process is usually quite a blast for kids who get involved.
Every individual and family has their own unique way of celebrating Halloween. If they are just uninterested or too busy, they might not celebrate the holiday at all. Others choose to take a simple approach to their festivities, using nothing more than a lonely Jack-o-Lantern to decorate their home.
On the flip side, there are also plenty of people who do everything possible to transform their homes and yards into a terrifying scene. Complete with zombies, bats, spiders, spider webs, vampires, tombstones, flashes of lightning, fog, and sound effects, such decorating may seem a bit extreme but is still fun. Many people leave decorations on a more subdued level, simply making their doorway a bit frightening for the trick-or-treaters that visit the home.
It can be well worth loading up the family and friends in your car at dusk and driving around your neighborhood in the days leading up to Halloween, just to see and enjoy the amazing effort some people will put in to participate and share in the celebration.
You can bet your children will be planning out their trick or treating when they know who is in the Halloween spirit and likely to welcome them with good fun, and a good stock of candies and sweet treats.
Some neighbors might really go all out, decorating the insides of their homes and inviting people in to take a tour their haunted house. Often the proceeds for such tours goes to charity, so finding a place such as this in your neighborhood could be another source of Halloween fun.
