10 Ways You Can Increase Your Sperm Count
Scott Gillespie
Humans are the only living beings that perform sex for various purposes. Unlike other animals, they just do not do it for the sake of enjoyment but for humans, sex is just more than a joyous act. It is an act through which, the human produces its progeny that would run the family further. However, here, the sexual intercourse differs from that of what done for just excitement and fun. Sexual intercourses that are done for producing babies require specific number of sperms in the semen without which, the semen is not capable to produce a baby.
Causes of Low Sperm Count and Quality
Alcohol abuse: Alcohol lowers fertility
Lubricants: Use of lubricants during intercourse can affect sperm motility.
Stress: Emotional stress and other psychological issues can lead to low sperm count
Heat exposure
Have sex & masturbate less often - the more times you ejaculate, the less dense your semen will be. Maintain a gap of 3 days between two consecutive ejaculations.
Refrain from habits like smoking, alcohol consumption etc. - Alcohol affects your liver function, which, in turn, causes a dramatic rise in estrogen levels. Even two drinks a day will have long-term effects on sperm production
Exercise regularly.Exercising your PC muscle can help you shoot further than ever before.
Essential fatty acids are critical in hormone functioning. Prostaglandins which are abundant in healthy semen are produced from essential fats. Poor sperm quality, poor motility or low count, could be indicative of low levels of prostaglandins. Essential fatty acids are richly abundant in oily fish such as mackerel, salmon, pilchards and herring. Try to include 2-3 portions per week - fresh, frozen or tinned are equally as good!
Zinc supplementation has been used to overcome some forms of both female and male infertility in those who are zinc deficient. Zinc is an essential mineral for the healthy formation and maturation of sperm. A regular zinc supplement would help in raising testosterone levels. A study has also shown that zinc helps in protecting the structure of the genetic material or the DNA chromatin in the sperm nucleus. This structure is important for successful fertilization. Doctors of natural medicine usually recommend 25 mg three times per day. Dietary sources of zinc include pumpkins seeds, shell fish especially oysters and red meat.
Emotional stress- Other than what you eat and do there are some emotional aspects as well which affect sperm count in your body. If you are mentally stressed or are suffering from depression than low sperm count is very normal. Remember you would always remain healthy if you have a healthy mind. Therefore learn to keep your mind healthy and your body would be healthy automatically. The same applies to your sperm count.
Watch your medications. Some prescription and over the counter medications actually lower testosterone levels, reduce libido and are the cause of low sperm count. If you're taking any kind of drug, go back to your doctor and ask what effect it's having on your sperm count.
Massage - undergoing massage therapy (using herbal oils) can help increase blood circulation which is good to treat Oligospermia.
Speed is another factor that affects sperm quality. Based on the study made by the World Health Organization in a healthy male, beyond 25% of sperm will exhibit progressive mobility. These are the sperm with the best chance of successfully infiltrating and fertilizing an egg.
Lose the extra pounds. The higher your BMI, the higher the estrogen levels in the body. Losing the extra weight will bring the testosterone / estrogen balance back to normal levels.
