Due to the growing interest in birding throughout the last documented 100 years there has been an increase in caring for the environment. Bird enthusiasts began observing birds in their natural habitats. In the process they were also able to observe the effects that development and growth had on the environment. It was through this distress that organizations such as that of the National Audubon Society were formed. It became their goal to fight for the habitats of birds and other animals in effort to preserve our environment.
Because of conservation efforts and birding enthusiasts laws were passed to protect species that would have otherwise gone extinct. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act was a major win in 1918 to keep bird wild American birds safe. The endangered species act was passed in 1973 in hopes of keeping wildlife such as the bald eagle from dying out of existence. Multiple land acts have been passed in order to set aside land for wildlife. These organizations have aided in the fight to clean up the air in order to fight global warming. They brought to attention the need to preserve or natural elements such as water.
Birding organizations have fought endlessly to preserve many natural habitats around the world. The Everglades National Park is a well known habitat that was almost completely destroyed by population growth and development. Through the efforts of many organizations it was able to be saved, in turn sparing all birds and other animals that find their home there that would have simply died out. Conservation efforts have saved habitats such as this all over, in turn saving thousands of species, not only animal, but plant, insect, fish, and many others.
Without the help of many birding organization as well as other animal organizations, the world would not be what it is today. Our environment would be vastly different. Many animals, plants, fish, and insects would most likely not exist. They would only be something to read about in books, or something that older generations merely remembered. Birding has had a very positive impact on the environment. Those in the birding community continuously contribute their information and knowledge to each other. Organizations found in birding as well as other nature groups strive to improve our environments for the sake of the animal factor as well as the human factor, we are all connected.
