In purchasing a new home there are a lot of thing that you will have to worry about. Can you make the monthly payments even under the worst-case scenario? If kids are in the plans then think about the schools that are close to the home and the quality of education that they provide. Essentially, make sure that all the possibilities are covered and thought out before you buy a home. It is better to encounter some trouble before the purchase is made, then after when there is little recourse except to accept it.
