Animal Rescue Organizations Save Puggles' Lifes
Christy Taylor
While this may sound unlikely, you may find your best option for adopting a Puggle is a rescue organization. Not only can you find a great puppy or adult through this type of organization, but you can also rescue one who might otherwise end up in a shelter.
Many Puggles end up with rescue organizations because they were adopted for their "cuteness." While these types of dogs are extremely cute, they are also sometimes stubborn and more active than their new owners might expect. These owners often surrender theirs, either directly to rescue organizations or to shelters, because they didn't get the dog they expected.
In many cases, there is nothing really wrong with the puppy. For the most part, Puggles are energetic, fun-loving dogs, but for someone expecting a more laid-back pug, they can be a little too much dog. Sometimes they just don't work out in their new homes. This is not because they're bad dogs, or because the owners are bad people. Sometimes things don't work out in relationships, and puppy/family relationships are no different.
Knowing that Puggles can end up in shelters and rescue organizations, you have a real advantage in finding your perfect puppy. Many of these puppies can be adopted more affordably and more quickly than puppies from breeders, which means your puppy can join your family right away.
You may also find that puppies from rescue organizations are in better health than puppies straight from pet stores, because the rescues have gotten them veterinarian care and fostered them through any health problems they may have had.
When you begin looking for a Puggle, one of the first ways to look for a rescued one in need of a good home is to go to one of the large web sites for pet adoptions, such as Petfinder.com, and search for such terms as pug, beagle, or pug beagle mix. These types of dogs are often listed as "mix" puppies.
To find rescue organizations, you can look for Puggle rescue organizations, of course; you may also want to check pug rescues and beagle rescues. While many breed-specific rescue organizations will not take mixed breeds, some pug and beagle rescues also take this type of breed.
You may also want to check your local animal shelters for pug/beagle mixes, and check your local newspaper's classified ads for beagle/pug mixes. You can often find Puggles being literally given away by people who do not understand what one is or do not appreciate their value. Because these dogs are unusual dogs they are quite often not recognized as being something really special. Because they are mixed breeds, they do not have papers and are not eligible for AKC registration. And because they are not always what people think they will get, they are often surrendered to rescues or shelters. This makes for real opportunities for those who want to adopt one.
