At first I though no big deal its just a few small leaks I can fix this all by myself. I made a trip to the store and asked the clerk who had some knowledge on basements explain to me how to repair and waterproof my basement. So I decided to give it a try and fix this problem all on my own. Days went by and I did the best I could to reapir these leaky walls. The next heavy rain fall the water came in, only this time much faster. This started to became a very big headache.
So I asked around and a friend of mine told me that there was a guy he knew that works on problems just like this and he is very cheap. So I thought why not give this guy a chance.
Sometime later the basement guy who was referred to me by a friend attempted to fix my leaky walls with a system called crack injection. Once he was done it looked as though it was fixed. Aside from the terrible mess he made I thought okay now my worries are over. Boy was I wrong!
The firs couple of rain fall were okay, my house was still settling and we knew down the road there is a good possibility of cracks showing up. Like clock work with every rain fall water leaked through the cracks of the basement walls. With every new rain fall and as the house continue to settle things got worse. I am not kidding you when I say it was like having a facet running through the cracks of my foundation walls. This so called Mr. Know it all came countless times to repair my water leaks, it was clear he could not and at one point stop taking our phone calls for help!
It got so bad that literally my wife and I stayed up all night every time it rained with buckets shoveling water as fast as we could to the nearest drain. It became very clear to u s that we need someone with experience in basement waterproofing to help.
We called contractor who said his opinion was to redirect the water away from the home, and landscape would be the way to go. He also recommended that he dig all around the foundation on the outside and seal any cracks he found.
Because we did not have enough knowledge on the subject, we though initially this was a good idea. The more thought I put into what he said, there was no way he can ensure my house won't get additonal cracks, then what?
We decided that if we had to do this, we wanted to do this right and fix the problem by waterproofing our wet basement from inside. We meet with several professional in preventing wet basements give us their thoughts but we still were not convinced.
Then we contacted a company that explained to us how they could prevent water from coming in. Basically what they do is seal the perimeter of your basement from the inside so in the event that new cracks form in your walls this sytem will intercept the water with their awesome drainage system safety outdoors without ever getting a drop of water hitting your basement floor.
This story has a very happy ending. Since we had this work done to our basement we are happy to report no water anywhere. My wife and I now plan to make our dry basement into a family entertainment center.
