Ask any NFL team what is one thing they would like to avoid, and they would say expectations. A lot of times it has been found that champion teams or favorites crumbling under the huge mountain of expectations. The Cal Golden Bears definitely seem to have nerves of steel because every time the expectations touch another scale, they push their game up several notches.
In their game against Washington, they showed ample testimony of this fact. Not for one moment did they show any sign of nerves. If anything, the players were seen brimming with infectious enthusiasm. It could only be fair to say that the Golden Bears have now made it a habit to thrive under expectations.
The confidence with which their defense line handled the offensive line of Washington was there to be seen. Not a lot of throws could be seen overlapping their running backs. Their receivers were almost at the right position when the throws came to them. The quarter backs did a lot of running. It almost seemed as if things were going for the Golden Bears as per a plan. And really, this is to be believed as the sole secret of the Golden Bears? successes!
If a game against the Washington would be slated this Sunday, the Golden Bears team would start preparing for the game at least a week in advance, with time permitting. This logic is applied for their matches against all teams and not specifically Washington. Importantly, they get all pieces to their planning right. On match day thus, it only remains on how well the plans are implemented. It must be said that with the kind of players the Golden Bears have, they are done well.
It is said, ?Any plan is good only if it works. If it doesn't, it is a cheap gold watch!? This is perfectly applicable to the Golden Bears. They might have still have had the best of plans but unless they executed it in the middle, all those plans would be of no use really. In their game against Washington, the Golden Bears gave spectators and other NFL teams an insight on how thorough their planning is, and importantly, how good their execution is!
Every Washington guy was marked. Every move was monitored. Almost every touchdown had a return. All this can only be attribute good game planning, for which the coaching staff needs to take credit, and good execution, for which the players can take credit.
And the Golden Bears steamroll on! Literally crushing any opponent coming their way!
