Twitter.com has grown over 1300% last year. That means that many of us are joining Twitter in droves. Are you also tweeting? Why are you on this website where people only have to post what they are doing? There are several reasons why people join twitter. Ask a group of people and you may come up with findings that may surprise you. Here are some of them.
1. I am on Twitter because my friends are there.
2. I have joined this because I wanted to know what exactly is this website. Why has it grown so much? I am in Internet
business and am exploring to find out why so many people joined twitter. Why cannot I make something similar or different and make money?
3. I am on Twitter because celebrities like Oprah and Ashton Kutcher are there. I am their follower and keep track of what they are doing. I am always informed of new developments in their life.
4. I am trying to market my services on Twitter. Here is an audience of millions - most of them can be my potential
customers. I am thinking of ways to make them buy from me. The sheer number of members makes my mouth water with thoughts of profit.
5. I am on Twitter to fight my campaign of animal rights (or some other campaign). I find it cruel to kill animals. I feel that more people should know the torture the animals are undergoing.
6. I am on twitter to meet new people. When I get bored I read what others are saying and join conversations. I am having few friends in my real life and we hardly meet now a days. I have a need to connect with people. After all I am a social animal.
7. I frankly do not know why I joined. I have a habit of joining any website and social network which is popular. That way I feel good about myself. Honestly it is serving no purpose but I feel good.
What Is Your Behavior On Twitter?
Twitter is after all nothing but a gathering of people where people are talking incessantly about what they like. Think of a party scene where small groups gather and discuss about things that interest them. A new entrant will go and join a group, which he/she finds interesting, right? It is true with Twitter. We are all human beings and our behavior changes little. On the Internet, as many of us enjoy anonymity, we feel more free to express our thoughts. Otherwise our behavior remains same in physical or virtual world.
Let us discuss about your behavior, expectations and response on Twitter. What is your method for following others? Do you follow anybody who has many followers, or do you select people carefully to be followed. Please read further in part four of this article series.
