Sales copy can often be very stark and boring. You need to offer your customers something a little different and something they will value. Customer testimonials are an excellent way to build a relationship with your prospects. A customer who had a positive experience and is willing to share about it means so much more than any praises you could ever lavish on yourself.
You want to share a customer testimony, but how in the world do you get those, couldn't you just fake it and hire so actors? Well, sure you could, but your integrity goes right out the window with that. Besides, it's probably against some laws. What you need to do is find out what your customers really think about your products or services, good or bad. This will have a two fold benefit. You will receive important feedback that will help you develolp your product to better serve your customers and you will have a source for your customer testimonials.
Exit polls are one way to get the information you are requesting. If your product is something that customers use once online you could immediately offer them a chance to send feedback via the net. Other types of products are used at different times. If you have a physical product that is shipped to the customer you could include a feedback card that can be returned for some small incentive.
It's one thing to get the feedback from your customers, it's something different to use that feedback. Make sure that your customer understands you will be using information they give you to promote your products and services. You will be even safer if they have to approve terms of service on a website or sign the feedback card that states the information is for commercial use. Most importantly, don't pay your customers for their feedback unless you are willing to mention that they were reimbursed along with the quote you use. Again, it's your credibility and integrity on the line.
