How To Cope Teens And Their Depression?
Jhon
Mood swings are normal with all teenagers. One minute your teenager will be in a very jovial mood and the next moment he/she will be a completely a different person characterized in a fit of rage, yelling or crying with no warning or apparent cause. You never know when mood swings turn into depression. Depression in teenagers is often overlooked, and is rarely treated or even diagnosed as they are misinterpreted as a common teenage trait.
Depression in teenagers arises due to several reliable reasons. It may arise due to chemical imbalance, family problems, personal problems and social problems. If left untreated it can become a much more serious issue with time. Education at school and colleges and the necessity of making serious life choices at a young age are taking them far off from the fulfilled, innocent life to more serious responsible life at a very early age which causes depression and those teenagers not being able to go parallel with it may have deep impact on their normal mental state giving rise to symptoms like to confined himself /herself in his room and not participate in social activities, and even when forced to participate, may do so with little or no enthusiasm. They will almost constantly be upset, not just with their parents, but also with siblings and even friends and their grades may drop and their social life may cease suddenly and unexpectedly.
Depression is such a serious emotional disorder that can even lead up to more serious situations like school or home violence, self injury and even suicide. Such emotional disorder must be treated as soon as possible. That emotional disorder that is uncontrollable with just words and care from the parent requires medications and therapy for your teenager to regain their mental health back.
Parents should always remember that children falling under the age group of ?teen? need special care and attention. Therefore take notice whether your teenager is unhappy or upset for a long period of time. Try minimized their depression by talking to them and trying to be as much friendly as it can be so that you teenager does not need to hide anything from you. Watch out what type of music your teenager is listening and the people he likes to spend time with. Nowadays emo guys that lead their life on their own way with negative concept of life are found to be influential on the present generations. So keep your teenager away from them and discourage every negative habit in a very cool way. Seek advice from the guidance counselor or attend a group counseling session that can help you and your depress child to overcome emotional obstacles with open mind.
