The tea leaf easily absorbs the aroma and flavor of various spices and aromatic herbs etc. Many tea flavors i.e. spices, herbs and even oils and synthetic aromatic chemicals are now being blended to make flavored tea. Even floral aromas are now infused in the tea brew to generate a distinct include jasmine, orchid, rose, and magnolia.

In India the masala tea is very popular this is also known as the spiced tea. Masala tea in India is being made since many years and a number of health giving and aromatic spices and herbs are used in a specific combination to give rise to masala tea brew. The process followed is very simple ground or straight addition of spices and herbs into the boiling brew and then the mixture is strained. Many prefer to drink spice tea with milk and sugar. The most popular spices are ginger, cardamom and cinnamon. Lemon grass, mint and spearmint are also used but specifically to make a tea brew to fight cold and indigestion. Sometimes clove and black pepper are also added. There are lots of blended spices available in Indian markets for those who regularly consume spice tea.

Herbal tea infusions

In reality herbal tea or tisane is not a tea brew as in most cases the tea leaf is never used at all. Herbal tea infusion is created by steeping various herbs, spices, flowers, etc. in hot water. Herbal drinks or tisane accord properties which are excellent for physical and mental health. Another advantage is caffeine is avoided the commonly used herbs are chamomile, peppermint, fennel, rose hip, and lemon verbena.

Spice tea is also made from Ayurvedic medicines and spices which are specifically used to treat certain disease. Ayurveda is an Indian system of medicine originating thousands of years back. The inclusion of tea leaf in medicine and making a brew is as a result of centuries of Ayurvedic research.
