A recent study suggests that to save your heart you need to head to the spice rack.  The study found that an active ingredient in turmeric called curcumin blocks the activity of protein in the body that leads to colon cancer.   The build of proteins in the colon spread and cause colorectal cancer.
The study found turmeric helpful in both the prevention and treatment of colon cancer.  The spice dampened biochemical signals sent inside the cancer cells and also suppressed the migration of the cells.  Turmeric is a member of the ginger family.  Turmeric is sometimes referred to as turmeric or kunyit.
Turmeric’s dried roots are ground into a deep yellow spice commonly used in curries and other South Asian cuisine. It is used extensively in Indian dishes, including lentil and meat dishes. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin and it has an earthy, bitter, peppery flavor. Ground Turmeric comes from the root of the plant. It is boiled or steamed and then dried, and ground.  Turmeric is routinely added to mustard blends and relishes. It also is used in place of saffron to provide color and flavor. However, Because of its bitter taste, Turmeric should not be used as a flavor substitute for saffron.
Help you family to good health try using Turmeric spice to add a flavor to traditional curries, rice and chicken dishes, and condiments. Turmeric is also a great addition to chutneys, pickles, and relishes. Many people enjoy adding just a pinch of Turmeric to fish soups. A favorite of my family to blending turmeric with melted butter and drizzle it over cooked vegetables, pasta, or potatoes. So go ahead and add some spice for an extra long life.
