Black Canyon Coffee
by: Galuh Wulandarie

Black Canyon Coffee's strategic location is one of the many reasons why crowds tend to keep coming back. Located at the back of Kuta's Discovery Shopping Mall, Black Canyon Coffee is filled with people who want to take a break from shopping and watch the beautiful Kuta Beach sunset.

If you have been to Thailand , you've probably heard of this coffee shop and restaurant, which has close to 160 outlets across Thailand and six more branches in other countries. Here in its Bali outlet, you can opt to stay inside its air-conditioned premises or al fresco, in cozy seats facing Kuta Beach . Expect a full house crowd thanks to the amazing view.

The dishes understandably are Thai-inspired. For appetizers, try delicacies like prawn in blanket, deep-fried prawn wrapped in layers of noodles; and chicken in purse, or fried chicken dim sum. Move on to the main course and have nasi goreng with chicken satay or nasi goreng with salted fish for a more Indonesian flavor. Black Canyon Coffee seafood pastas, steaks, and curries, all likewise served Thai-style. The dishes were delicious except for the grilled salmon, which had a rather “fishy” aftertaste.

As for the beverages, you will not be disappointed. The Black Canyon Coffee serves uniquely-blended coffee, tea, and milk drinks. They use Arabica coffee beans, which tastes milder and has less caffeine than the Robusta variety. Some of their specialties include the Jamaican blast (coffee with a dash of rum), black hazelnut shake (a shot of espresso with hints of butterscotch and hazelnut, topped with chocolate ice cream), and black-crunch coffee (coffee with crunchy cookies, ice cream, and a dollop of whipped cream). My personal favorite however, is the gelato espresso (espresso with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). It's the best drink to have while watching the sun go down.

French statesman and orator Talleyrand once said, “The best coffee is as black as the devil…hot as hell…pure as an angel…and sweet as love!” Words that Black Canyon Coffee definitely live by.
