Made’s Warung @ Kuta
by: Galuh Wulandarie

Back in 1969, Made's Warung was just a small joint serving traditional snacks to rice farmers and surfers. Thirty-seven years later, Made's Warung has grown to become, arguably, the most popular eatery in Bali where locals, expats and tourists have converged through the years.

The two-story restaurant resembles a traditional country house. It's an open-air diner with wooden, warung-style tables, pictures of ancient Bali's tempoe doeloe, and a good view of the bustling main road that leads to Kuta Beach. It's a very strategic location, as tourists often stop and have a look at the place.

Don't pass up the Smoked Marlin with Bagel (Rp 30,000) and the Snapper Fillet (Rp 40,000). Also try local delicacies such as the Nasi Campur Special (Rp 40,000) and Nasi Goreng ala Made (Rp 32,000). The Nasi Goreng ala Made comes with the unforgettable sambel matah (a traditional Balinese chili sauce made with shallots and lemongrass). Gado-gado , satay , curries, sushi (75,000), and tempura (Rp 60,000) are equally delicious and should not be missed.

Made's Warung staff do their best to give diners the best service possible. But with the restaurant's large lunch and dinner crowds, expect orders to arrive a little later than expected.

Essentially, Made's Warung offers you a home away from home, where dishes are prepared, cooked, and served with warm love; a place where you can chat with fellow tourists while savoring a hearty meal.

A more sophisticated Made's Warung can be found at Seminyak Road, Seminyak, Bali.
