Why I Was Alive ?

By: Satish Verma

It was a compulsive obsession with teeth
but I was bewildered at the mass grave of tongues,
for speechless survival of a dumb genre
haunted by non-existent aliens.

My knowledge had always been incomplete.
I was feeling hot and cold at the same time
baffled by the change in colour of the skin
unused, unbuttoned for centuries.

Contour of corpse was varying with the earth
listening human cries at the feet of statue.
Slim was the chance to dig up the truth
I was wondering why I was alive ?
