Camera spare batteries on my list of things you should-have is definitely a must.
Without a set of camera spare batteries on hand, I can tell you that without fail, the moment your batteries die down, you're going to miss that perfect shot. This is the law of nature and the law of everything that can go wrong will go wrong.
And even if you have camera spare batteries but don't bring it along with you on your photo-taking jaunts, you're almost definitely going to wish that you were smart enough to have brought it along with you, or that you had recharged it the night before like you should have.
As you might - or might not have guessed - this has happened to me, and more than once before. You might think that the good photographer is always prepared for every eventuality, and in the perfect world, that's as it should be. However, I know for a fact that I don't live in the perfect world, and I do on occasion forget my camera spare batteries, and I even more often than not, forget to recharge them.
Knowing this and knowing my forgetful tendencies, I have invested in not one, but two sets of camera spare batteries. This is not as vain a hope as you might be led to believe, it does in fact work for me pretty well just about all the time. I now have a set of recharged camera spare batteries in my camera case with me at all times.
Most people without my forgetful tendencies however, can make do with only one extra set of camera spare batteries, and I strongly recommend that you do invest in one as soon as possible, if not immediately you get your camera. In fact to take things a step further, I would suggest that if you don't already have a camera spare batteries set, but you do own a digital camera, that you invest in a camera spare batteries over and above anything else on this.
