Geforce 7900gx2: 31 Centimetres of Pleasure?

31 centimetres! Here is probably the graphics board longest of all times! Yes GeForce 7900 GX2 is with it only 31 centimetres long whereas its weight is completely consequent. It should be said that GeForce 7900 GX2 comprises two stages, made up each one of a PCB lodging a GPU which are seen systematically accompanied by its video memory and of its connector SLI. Between the two stages of one 7900 GX2 one note the presence, close to the square of the chart in question, of an interconnection owner being used to convey the data from one chip to another. For the small history when only one chart GeForce 7900 GX2 is connected to the system, functionalities SLI of pilots NVIDIA are not accessible.

As we specify it previously, NVIDIA uses a controller PCI-Express train as a bridge between the two chips. This last takes seat on the lower PCB, close to only and single connector PCI-Express train 16x. Note in the passing which if the ventirads cover the chips memories, no plastic sheath leads heat outside the chart as it is the case with Radeon X1900 XT/XTX of ATI for example.

Here is for the physical aspect of the charts, and we should now approach their design features. NVIDIA uses here of GeForce 7900 and not of GeForce 7800 as on the first QuadSLI machines exposed by Dell at the time of the last the THESE interest, in addition to the power gain, is double, even triple, since G71 heats less, consumes less and its controller MIO used by dongle SLI is able to make forward the data used by SLI AA. This precise point was alas not possible on GeForce 7800, which explained besides their poor performances on the matter. If we indicate higher than NVIDIA uses of G71, it is not completely exact. Comparatively, GeForce 7900 GTX posts higher frequencies with 650 MHz for the graphics chip and 800 MHz for the memory. Memory which remains interfaced in 256 bits and sees its quantity carried with 512 Mo by GPU. That means that chart GeForce 7900 GX2 comprises 1 all the same Go of memory. Finally a Quad-SLI system, like a conventional SLI of GeForce 7900 GTX, offers four ports DVI of the Dual-Link type making it possible to control four screens in 2560x1600.
