Getting the Most From your Business Phone System Purchase

By: Kingston Amadan

Purchasing a business phone system is a bit like gambling in that no one truly knows what the future will hold. Still, there are ways you can ensure that whatever phone system purchases you make will serve you well for years to come.

The first thing to consider is whether or not the phone system is capable of providing the features you require. There are three types of phone systems currently on the market, which are Keyless or KSU systems, Key Systems and Private Branch Exchange or PBX. Which one you choose will dictate what features are available to you, although all three now have most of the commonly utilized features that are required for business purposes. Once that's established, and provided you haven't ruled any of them out, it's all a matter of call volume and lines.

Buying a business phone system is a bit like buying an automobile for a one care family. In other words, planning for what could happen is recommended. A married couple intending to have children would do well to avoid the two seat sports coupe and move toward a sedan or minivan. Likewise, a diehard bachelor or bachelorette needn't worry about hauling around toddlers anytime soon and can go in any direction they please without fear of needing to trade in anytime soon. In the same way, a business phone systems should be purchased with where you are today in mind, as well as where you expect to be in the near future.

All too often, businesses wasted money on phone systems they will soon outgrow and need to replace. Additionally, many businesses opt for expensive PBX systems when a key system would give them the same features and more lines than they will ever need for a lot less money. The point of purchasing any product for your business is to get the functionality you require for the longest time period while spending the least amount of money. Come to think of it, that's the point of purchasing just about any product for most any reason.

So, if you are in the market for a business phone system, consider the features you need and then take the time to look over your options in relation to your expected growth. A little careful consideration today can save a lot of money over the long run.
