For people that love to eat, losing a few pounds is a very tough thing to do. While a good percentage of the American aspire to be healthy and thin, obesity still remains a problem. Here are a few strategies that can help you get started on the road to weight loss.

Please note, before you start, make sure you seek the advisement of your doctor.

The first thing you should do is get into the habit to start exercising regularly. Regular exercise is the only way to get results. Being persistent in your efforts will help you develop a habit to exercise. Not only will your constant efforts help you lose weight, you will also build muscle and become stronger.

On a side note, if you want to start exercising, and do have concerns about injuring yourself, they are valid concerns and should be addressed.

The answer is to start with low-impact exercises.

Low impact exercises may not be the optimal way to lose weight quickly. However, (for a person just starting out) they do limit amount of stress on your body. Two great low-impact exercises are walking and swimming. If you don't have access to a pool and if you're a member of a gym, look for the elliptical machine.

The best approach to start exercising on a regular basis is to start scheduling your workouts. Once a week you should review the week ahead of you and try to schedule a workout for 5 days in the week.

The second thing you need to do is create simple work out routines that include simple and straight forward exercises. Please don't confuse “simple" with “easy". You want to make sure you are working your body and work your muscles until they are tired. However, you want to make sure you do not hurt yourself in the process, so be careful and listen to your body.

Make sure you take notes after each workout incase you need to increase weight or amount of repetitions. Starting simple provides the best opportunity to for successful workouts and allows you to build upon your exercise regimen as you learn more.

The last item in your quest to a healthy lifestyle is to make sure you keep learning about exercise. The more you learn the less you'll be bored (which is a common reason why people quit). Learn about all the different workouts that can keep your body moving. The payoff will be a lifetime of a fitness lifestyle and health.
