Motorola V3: Slimmest Flip Phone

By: Jack Daniel

The Motorola V3 is the ultimate communication device. A perfect combination of looks and features, this offering from Motorola truly defines style. Launched as the slimmest flip phone in the market, it still remains a popular choice for consumers all around the world.

The first unusual thing you notice about the Motorola V3 is the fact that it does not look like your usual communication device at all. Sleek to the farthest extent of sleekness, here is one handset that redefines fashion in the mobile phone market. Composed of mainly metal alloys and redefining style, the phone is the another feather in the cap for Motorola's clamshell segment, already a huge hit due to its earlier models such as the v300 and the v500. The phone is also known as the razor, which clearly defines its concept. Compared to other phones in the clamshell segment, this phone is the slimmest( less than 14 mm when closed; which reduces further when the flap is opened), another reason for you to believe that the name justifies the means, the phone measures 98X53X14 in dimensions and weighs a very light 95 grams. Although one will fall in love with this latest offering from Motorola at the first look, it would be worthwhile to discuss the utility of the phone as, well, a phone. The V3 was the first phone to have a fusion of plastic and metal in its construction, and has a keypad with a touch panel, which often makes it slightly unusual for the first time user to get accustomed to it. The keypad has a subtle blue light which lights up whenever it's used. The phone has two screens; the internal screen is the main one, displaying the menu and other applications, measures 2.2 inches diagonally, and can support upto 262,000 colors, with a resolution of 240X320 pixels. The external screen displays the time , incoming calls and events. The photo call feature enables the user to see the photograph of the calling person, but only on the internal screen. The phone has a standard VGA camera and allows the user to take photographs but not video recording, although it allows for video playback. The V3 is a Quad Band phone and has an internal memory of 5MB. It is GPRS compatible and has a special feature called the motomixer which allows the user to mix the ringtones.
The phone is equipped with a 750 mAh Lithium ion battery which provides 288 hours in standby mode and 7 hours in the talk mode. The phone has java application, a 3D phonebook for storing upto 9 photographs, SMS, MMS and EMS, polyphonic ringtones and bluetooth wireless connectivity.

The V3 is an exceptional phone, promoted primarily for its trendy looks, but is having pretty good specifications too. Earlier this phone was a very exclusive item due to its price, but now with a considerable slash in the price, it is more in the reach of the common man, hence its popularity.
