Sony Ericsson W850i: the Music Ride

By: Adam Jaylin

Sony Ericsson W850i is a classic example of how keeping things simpler helps. The device banks upon the design of acceptance rather than the shape of excellence. This should not go as an indication that W850i is a stereotyped, average mobile phone. On the contrary, this one is a high-end handset bringing a few distinctions to its manufacturers. This first slider phone from the house of Sony Ericsson has another numerical significance. With Sony Ericsson W850i, the number of 'Walkman' branded mobile phones have reached double figures.

Though, Sony Ericsson W850i can comfortably be placed among hi-tech mobile phones, it is more balanced and restrained in its approach. Perhaps, it may act critical towards its success rather than pushing it back. Imaging technology of W850i is not the best one may come across, however it is above average by any standards. 240 x 320 pixels, 30 x 40 mm screen and 2 megapixels camera with video and flash stand by this assessment.

The Walkman branding of Sony Ericsson W850i has all reasons to tune in well. Advanced Walkman 2.0 Music Player, memory expansion provision of up to 4GB and TrackID music recognition hold more answer than queries in its support.

The 3G technology brings in high speed data transfer/connectivity tools and video calling facility which when looked upon in Walkman phone, always feels great. WLAN is a noticeable omission, but as discussed earlier, seems to believe in performance rather than topping up the number game. Talk time of up to 7 h was always going to be a smiling affair for those who would need to talk at length and so it does!
