Checking Out the Sonyericsson Xperia X1

By: Andy Adams

SonyEricsson have been going great guns in the past few years, since their merger with Ericsson, Sony have been able to draw upon a wealth of success in other areas of electronic with brands such as their Walkman portable music players and CyberShot digital cameras both getting entire ranges of mobile phones containing their respective capabilities.

But with mobile phones gaining more and more skills and becoming portable all-in-one devices like the Nokia N95 that was marketed more as a mobile computing platform than a mobile phone, SonyEricsson have needed to join the fray by releasing their own ultra portable computing platform, the XPERIA X1.

The XPERIA X1 is a widescreen sliding phone that sports a full QWERTY keyboard underneath the screen, with a slight curved shape and hyper stylized buttons under the screen it is clearly aiming to take a bite out of the similar large screened breed like Apple's iPhone and Samsung's F480.? The difference with the XPERIA is that it will have a host of interesting new features beneath its spacious 3 in wide screen.

It has most typical features you'd expect for modern mobile phones: 3.2 Mega Pixel cameras with photo light, MicroSD slot and aGPS.? Where it comes into its own is that it sports the super fast HSUPA data speeds, this is especially useful for people wanting to surf the internet on the go.? As well as this the phone has a secret hidden up its sleeve.

The secret?? Well whilst the XPERIA is based on the Windows Mobile 6 operating system, it in fact has a few extra features that have led to gadget junkies to believe that this phone may be sporting a new version (possibly Windows Mobile 7?) in order to power the "panel interface" where you are presented with many screens and you select one via touch and the phone zooms in to that screen, an interesting interface which has many people clamouring for the mobile phone/mobile computer.

The XPERIA X1 is due to come out in the second half of 2008 so we may start seeing some mobile phone networks advertising the XPERIA soon in anticipation of similar mobile phones being released in the second half of 2008 such as the new 3G iPhone and a range of releases form Nokia.
