Nokia 8600: the Moon Light Phone

By: Samuel Herrick

The Nokia 8600 is the latest addition to 88xx series of premium mobile phones from Nokia. The handset is placed below the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition and has a much lighter price tag. Even though it is cheaper, the Nokia 8600 totally overwhelms the latter functionality-wise and sports more palm-friendly dimensions. The handset maintains the USP of other 88xx series phone of all metal casing, design that nobody would possibly miss and the price living up to the owner's status.

Much attention was given to the name of the device. The handset is called Nokia 8600 Luna. Its codename 'Luna' comes from the Greek history - it is the goddess of the moon light, who was frequently identified with Selena.

It seems that it is the sparkling of the moon light that the mobile phones' designers have tried to reflect in the Nokia 8600's name. The Nokia 8600 utilizes smoked glass finish on its metal casing to create the desired effect. Majority of the casing is made out of stainless steel with matte finish. Apart form being distinct from all soft touch finish devices found in the market today, Nokia 8600 Luna's coating makes the casing as smudge-resistant as possible.

The Nokia 8600 Luna is a quad band mobile phone and changes its band automatically. Seamless voice connectivity apart, the handset is apt for mobile internet by virtue of its embedded GPRS and EDGE technology. You can manage your emails, send Instant Messages and browse the Internet on its built in WAP 2.0/xHTML browser. Local connectivity options include Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP profile and microUSB. The Nokia 8600 Luna features a 2.0 megapixel digital camera with video recording capabilities. A multi format compatible media player and FM radio completes the circle of mobile entertainment. A decent memory pool of 128 Mb is sufficient to carry all that you will need on the road.
