Advertising Campaign Too Good to be T-rue?

By: John Gray

You may have seen T-Mobiles recent television advertising campaign for their Combi and Solo tariffs.? T-Mobile claim 'You won't find more minutes for ?30' and are guaranteeing to match the amount of minutes of any other ?30 tariff offered by the major networks if customers find a better deal.

When purchasing your new mobile phone it's hard to find a deal that is good value for money.? T-Mobiles price guarentee gives customers the piece of mind that T-Mobile will offer the most amount of minutes for ?30.? What a great deal I hear you cry! But is this the case?? Is the deal as good as it seems? ?Three don't seem to think so!

Three believe that T-Mobiles advertising campaign is misleading customers.? Three say that the advert is a comparison advert, comparing Solo and Combi tariffs to ?30 tariffs offered by the other four major networks.? However Three don't offer a ?30 tariff, but they do offer customers the Mix and Match 1100 tariff which includes 1100 units.? These units can be used on either calls, text messages or a combination of both. ?This means that Three offer 1100 cross network minutes for ?27 per month which is 400 minutes more and ?3 less per month than T-Mobiles 18 month Combi tariff (both tariffs come with a free handset)!?

Three lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) last week, explaining why they should be excluded from the comparison advert.? T-Mobile are still awaiting formal correspondence from the ASA regarding their price guarantee offer.
