Mobiles Phones to Aid the Airline Industry and Customers

By: Karl Bantleman
We rely on our mobile phones for a considerable amount of things but that list may be about to grow. As you may know, airlines have always had problems with the length of checking-in queues and people not turning up but this is all about to change thanks to the mobile phone industry.

It is estimated that the airline industry could save up to ?300 million by being able to track passengers and send all important documents such as tickets and boarding passes to the passengers mobile. This new idea would be conjunction with the network operators.

It is only at a research stage and certain customers are receiving text messages asking them their opinions. If the new programme came to fruition then customers could receive messages to inform them of important information as well as the airline being able to get a rough idea of where the passenger is using the signal from mobile phones.

If the airline were able to know where all their passengers were, it would allow the whole process to run a lot smoother and save valuable time and effort chasing them down. Checking-in would also be done via your mobile phone and is a slight improvement to the online checking-in that some airlines use at the moment.

Customers often get bombarded with sales staff and is a reason behind them losing track of time and delaying everything. Vouchers and deals can also sent to your phone and research shows that people spent 45% more when receiving offers via their mobile. If this programme was released, it makes mobile phone deals more attractive to customers and it will be interesting to see which network providers opt in.

Monthly and pay as you go mobile phones are widely available and both should be able to receive the information necessary that will make your time at the airport hassle free and should speed up the checking-in process.

New technology that will allow mobile phones to receive data from airlines about checking-in, tickets and boarding cards will make mobile phone deals more attractive. Monthly and pay as you go mobile phones are likely to be involved in a programme that further improves mobile technology.
