Alert Students: Save Your Pennies

By: John Gray

Students usually survive on a very tight budget when at college or university, so anything that can save them a few pounds is always a bonus. Mobile phone bills can become costly when arranging your hectic student social life and keeping the parents and your friends at home informed of all the latest gossip and important news! So how can students save money on their mobile phone bills? Blyk have the answer!

Blyk is a new network that is offering 16 - 24 year olds 217 free text messages and 43 free anytime cross network minutes every month if you agree to receive up to 6 commercial advertising text messages per day! The adverts can be for a variety of different products for example they could range from L'Oreal, Adidas, Lucozade coupons or Xbox. There is no contract length (as it's a pay as you go service) and the sim card is free, and its free to reply to the adverts that are sent to you. Blyk run off the Orange network and call prices once you have used your free allowance are 15p per call and 10p per text message.

Customers fill in their Blyk profile with their interests so adverts are sent out that are relevant to you, so no need to worry about being spammed!

If you are not between 16 and 24 years old I'm afraid you can't join up for the service, customers must prove their age and identity via their passport or national insurance details.

Let's face it Blyk isn't going to save you millions but every little helps when you are living on a shoestring! Let's just hope they bring out the same kind of service for all ages in the near future.
