The Mobile Phones Rise to Fame

By: David Webster

Mobile phones were first introduced in the market in the 80s as expensive communication equipment reserved for the upper-class people. But after more than just a decade after, the communication tool we referred to as a cell phone has managed to make itself available to the general public, not just the business elite.
It's now earned itself a place in every person's list of most common necessities. Mobiles now are not only used for business communication, manufacturers of handsets made sure that phones being made available in the market will be packed with functionality to maximize its potential. Most phones now are internet capable, thanks to the 3G technology, users can surf the net even without opening a personal computer or laptop. It gave a whole new meaning to the term "surfing on the go".
Other manufacturers made their phones w/ high resolution cameras, much to the delight of the public, artists and non-artists alike.

That means they can capture an image in the best possible way ever with use of their handsets. For the music lover in us, music phones or walkman phones are developed. You name it, mostly the hand phones available in the public now has already got it. Shock-proof, scratch-proof, radio, multi-media, camera, GPRS navigation system, video calls (network dependent); the works, and you can also get cheap mobile phones with awesome features as well.
Since it's a booming business, many companies are now at war in terms of providing network services to the people. In the United Kingdom alone, there are several communication companies who are competing with each other for their own slice of the pie namely O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange. When it all comes down, their market share will depend on how good they pit their products against their competitors, how low their prices could go, or how strong their network coverage is, to attract more subscribers.
Same goes for manufacturing companies. Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Apple, and probably a dozen more, they are all in the race to create a phone model that will fit into everyone's lifestyle. There's got to be something for everybody, whether you are a businessman, a student, a sports fanatic, no matter what occupation you have, there's certainly a phone out there that will suit your needs.
Shops or phone shop that sells these phones usually comes with a subscription that you can choose from, either pay-as-you go or pay by monthly, depending on where your preference lies. Thanks to the mobile phone's rise to fame, staying in touch with everyone else has never been this easy.
