How to Save Money With a Mobile Phone

By: Elisha Burberry

The vast majority of us now have and use a mobile phone on a daily basis, and many people now wonder how they ever managed without one.

What's more, technology is now advancing at such a rate that a phone can be much more than just a phone - with camera, internet and messaging options now available as well. However most of us still use our mobiles for making quick - and not so quick - phone calls to our friends and family, especially when we're away from home. So it makes sense that we should want to get the best deal possible when it comes to paying the bill each month.

Firstly you need to consider how often you use your phone, what times of the day you use it, and who you call most often. When you know the answers to all these questions you will have a better idea of which phone and which options are best for your own unique situation.

It's a good idea to research all the different options once you know when, how and why you use your phone. This will enable you to see just how much money you could save each month. Many people stay with a tariff or service that no longer offers good value for money, so it's worth finding out what new options are available.

The ultimate in good mobile phone deals has to be getting free calls. There are a couple of options available to you if you want to benefit from this. If you and the people you talk to most often all have the same phone - like a Skype mobile for example - you can phone each other at no cost, at the click of a single button. Alternatively if you are all on the same network, such as O2 for example, there are several deals which allow you to phone other users on that same network free of charge, although this is often limited to certain times of the day.

Each phone provider will also usually provide access to their own range of features on your specific phone, so it's worth checking out what kind of extras they offer before you decide on any one company to go with. You might also need to buy a new phone to take advantage of a new service provider (particularly if you decide on a Pay As You Go scheme), although if you sign up to a contract you will usually receive a brand new phone free of charge. If you're looking to update what you have, this can be a good option.

Making phone calls from wherever you are is a luxury we often take for granted, but if you can make those calls for free, you're likely to appreciate them even more.
