Family Mobile Phones

By: Gary Parsons

There are many mobile phone deals currently available for families wanting to bring all their handsets together into one account but they mainly rest with three main network providers. Offering this type of deal gives families the piece of mind that if their son or daughter needed to get in touch they would only be a phone call away.

- T-Mobile

By setting up and promoting a new package 'FamilyShare', they are able to instantly appeal to the right market.

This package is very different to many of the other networks; asking the main account holder to sign up to a minimum 18 month contract, at a minimum of two and maximum of five handsets.

Like regular mobiles phone contracts, they are able to sign up to a line rental package of between ?55 and ?150 which gives them a set allowance of free minutes and texts. By being part of FamilyShare, they also are entitled to unlimited free calls between other family members with handsets on the account.

- Vodafone

Vodafone have gone for something very different; letting their customers retain their independence and stopping parents from being landed with expensive bills at the end of the month.

Their plan works by one person (supposedly a parent) paying ?5 per month for them and three other persons to make unlimited calls between them. This means that each mobile phone user, as long as they are on Vodafone, is able to keep their mobile phones whether they're on pay-as-you-go or a contract. For those with a slightly bigger family of five then they price goes up to ?7 for the same features.

- Orange

Again, determined to get a slice of the market - Orange has set up a product called 'Your Group'. This package essential brings together different elements from Vodafone and T-Mobile but letting one person control the amount spent on contract and pay-as-you go phones on the account.

Whilst an itemised bill is received on a monthly basis, account holders are able to choose to make top-ups for the other phones (perhaps their children's) on a monthly or weekly basis. All persons on the account can however make unlimited calls to each other so the need to do this remains low and aren't tied into a contract on all handsets.
