Htc Touch: Just a Touch Away

By: Bradley Ben

Latest offering from High Tech Computers takes our way of using a PDA to the next level - control with a sense of touch. Hence, the new device is aptly named as HTC Touch. Incorporating touch sensitive screen and touch sensitive control in a mobile device is not a new phenomenon.

However, previous hand-held had no or at best, limited control with fingers. Touch sensitive mobile phones and PDAs like the Sony Ericsson W950i needs a stylus for navigation and operations. The HTC Touch boasts of a special touch layer and a software application for easy control with fingers. Another touch sensitive mobile phone - the Prada phone by LG too has complete finger centric touch controls, however that fashion centric phone is no match to the HTC Touch when it comes to functionalities.

The HTC Touch is a Window Mobile 6.0 device that works like any other top end PDA with similar specification. Design wise, the hand-held shows two major differences from other PDA styled phones. The first difference that will strike you is its extremely small form factor and minimalist design. The PDA measures just 99.9 x 58 x 13.9 mm and weighs mere 112 grams. his makes the HTC Touch one of the smallest and most compact PDAs in the whole world. The other difference that set aparts the HTC Touch from the clutter is its elevation of the display to the level of the frame, so that you finger can glide smoothly across the whole front panel.

As mentioned above, the HTC Touch is a Window Mobile 6.0 device, thus gives its user the full range of MS Office functionalities and other popular Microsoft programs and applications. The handset is powered by a 201 MHz, TI OMAP 85 processor, 64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM and a 1GB supplementary memory card. Triband GSM mobile network coverage, class 10 GPRS, EDGE, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB - the HTC Touch has everything that is expected from such a high performing device.
