Mobile Phones; Pretty in Pink

By: Gary Parsons

For the fashion conscious amongst us, it's often been the shape and the way our mobile phones flip and stay open which has been the most important and most appealing factor when committing to a new contract or pay-as-you-go phone.

Now it seems that the colour of the handset carries as much weight in consumer's minds; with many choosing to go pink when upgrading our purchasing a phone for the first time. Surprisingly pink's not just a hit with teenage girls but with gadget lovers worldwide.

Like any industry, mobile phone manufacturers have to act fast. Spotting a trend and getting it released as soon as possible is a hard task but something they have to face everyday. Manufacturers have picked up on this and have begun to release their handsets in a variety of colours, sometimes only available in pink.

If we look at what phones are available; Motorola seems to stand out by far. With its already popular RAZR handset, they were soon to release it in a variety of colours - one of these being 'Hot Pink'. After the popularity of this phone, we were also introduced to the Motoslvr L6 Pink which was aimed at a market that wanted simplicity but with a hint of pink.

Nokia have been particularly successful in this area, collaborating with the designer Cath Kidson to produce a range of hand-painted effect phones to compliment their existing range of handsets.

Like any colours in the fashion world, they soon start to fade and with Apple's iPhone becoming the next style icon will we see White making its way to the next mobiles phones catwalk?
