Free Online Classifieds Portal

'A Space for every Amdavadi'

An 'US returned' Amdavadi has given a perfect gift to the city, one that also turned his fortunes around.

When software engineer Aasit Shah thought of moving back to India after spending six years in the US, he found among other things, a classifieds website to ease the move.

"I had to sell everything - my house, the two cars and even my household items. I could do that by logging on to a website and reaching out a wide audience," he recalls.

So when Shah returned to Ahmedabad last November, he thought of opening a similar classifieds website to help others like him. He wanted to give his hometown a very special platform on the web. That is how www.yobaba.com was born in February 2006. "Be it to buy and sell things, find a place to live, new job or to simply find people with similar interest, I hope it helps all of us," says this 29- year- old who found that a specialized portal for Ahmedabad was long over due. With the city bursting as it seems, it was only natural that people would want a 'space' that was their very own.

Shah felt that there was a need "for a place where people in a city can come to find a job, a home to live in, make new friends who share their interests, find soul mates, make announcements about events, trade anything else that they might want or have to offer or help out someone in need."

Shah is convinced that he made the right decision at the right time.
"Everybody thinks it is foolish to leave the US for a life in India, which is deemed full of challenges. For me, it was a well thought out decision. I wanted to be with my family and friends and experience for myself the boom that India is experiencing."
