Sony Ericsson C702 - Cyber-shot Mobile Phones

By: Matt Sharp

Let's take a look at the new Sony Ericsson C702, the camera phone that will go ANYWHERE!
Sony Ericsson C702 - go anywhere!
Sony Ericsson have a reputation for making superb camera phones. The reason why they have that richly-deserved reputation is their stunning range of Cyber-Shot mobile phones, the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to camera phones. Porting over their Cyber-Shot software and hardware developments from cameras to phones was a shrewd move by Sony Ericsson, and I'll be perfectly frank... it's paid off awesomely, because what we have in that product is a range of mobile phones that can actually compete with (and outperform in the case of my rubbish camera) so-called 'proper digital cameras'.
However, up until the Sony Ericsson C702 was announced, there'd never been a Cyber-Shot mobile phone that was built to be used off-road, as it were. To put it another way, there was never a Cyber-Shot that had been 'ruggedized', made water and dust-resistant, to make it resistant to the elements. And by the same token, there'd never been a ruggedized mobile phone that had such a powerful camera.

But now, these two worlds crash together with the stunning Sony Ericsson C702.
When worlds collide - Tough mobile phones meet Cyber-Shot mobile phones
The spec list of the Sony Ericsson C702 is impressive in itself. Built into this compact mobile phone, you have a 3 megapixel camera, with autofocus, flash, and video recording. And not just any video recording, because it will record at 30 frames per second (yes, that's DVD quality). So, that a big tick next to the words 'fantastic camera'. But that's not its only gimmick, as it also has built in GPS, turning your mobile phone into a sat-nav device. This however, opens up a cool feature, in conjunction with the camera: geotagging. Or, to put it another way, taking a photo, then being able to tag it with the exact coordinates you were at when you took the photo. So, not only can you get a photo, you can store it on your map to instantly find it again in future, annnnnd, you can share it with your friends, so they can find and visit the exact same thing you've taken a photo of. Which is really rather cool!
But of course, the key features of the Sony Ericsson C702, the thing that really sets it apart from all the other Cyber-Shot mobile phones on the planet, is the fact that it's the first to be dust and water-resistant. Which means you can take it where no other camera phone can go. If you took and old camera phone, for example, into the surf and spray kicked up by a fast moving river, it's keel over and die. Not so with the C702, which would just grit its teeth, roll its sleeves up, and shout, 'Is that the best you've got??' You owe it to yourself to check out this phone, so get out there, compare mobile phones, and see if you agree that the Sony Ericsson C702 is the off-roader of the camera phone world!
