Nokia 6300 - Slim and Noteworthy

By: Adam Caitlin

The launch of Nokia 6300 introduces the manufacturers into the market of slim mobiles (which was earlier dominated by the Ultra Edition of Samsung, and Motorola's RAZR). The phone is rather conservative in its design, but still quite appealing to make you "feel good" about the usage.

The Nokia 6300 is a combination of tough stainless steel covers and glossy, expensive black plastic. Though slim, it provides a good feel when held in hand, and can be easily fit into the pockets and purses. The screen comes with the dimensions of 30mm wide by 40mm tall, while its particulars are 320x240-pixel (QVGA) colour screen displays up to 16 million colours. Which means, the texts, pictures and graphics comes out bright and nice, while readability is also made much easier. The keypad is large and well spaced out, ensuring the typing capability is made much faster and error-free. Only the four-way navigation key above the keypad feels a little on the thin side. One noteworthy design change in Nokia 6300 is the inclusion of blue lights on either side of the device. It glow when you have an unread text message.

Feature wise, Nokia 6300 is kept plain and simple. Thus, the device comes with straight forward Series 40 user interface. The Menu system is easy to understand and operate, and all the useful features can be accessed without any fumbling into the sub-catagories of the Menu. Plus, you can view the menu as a grid of icons, as tabs or as a list, and one also has the option to rearrange the icons so they're in the order you want them. One more user-friendly feature of the Menu is that, when you hover around a particular icon for a long time, pop ups appear to explain what it is all about.

The Nokia 6300 comes with a 2 MP camera, a music player, a video player, an FM radio and a voice recorder. For sharing and connectivity, there is an option for Bluetooth, GPRS and EDGE, and of course emails and SMS. One of the Nokia 6300's hidden talents is its ability to upgrade and synchronise data wirelessly, through FOTA. Other highlights of Nokia 6300 includes an email client, and many lifestyle features. The device is Tri-band and comes with a talk time of 3.5 hours.
