What to Look for in a Registry Repair Tool

By: Jeff Farley

All the information you use on your computer is stored in the windows registry. Much of that information is deleted when it's no longer needed or required. Unfortunately, some information "stays behind" and accumulates in your registry, causing the need for some sort of registry tool in order to get it fixed. That's because as time goes on, the registry keeps getting bigger and bigger, and your system will experience a number of problems. Most notably, your system will run a lot slower. The first time my registry was corrupt, it would literally take 5 to 10 minutes for one web page to load!

In order to prevent this from happening, you need to perform some sort of registry scan on a regular basis. You can do this yourself, by utilizing "regedit.exe" in the run file. This is not recommended for most people, including advanced computer users, since there are so many things that can go wrong. Your registry could end up worse off than it was before you started!

Your other option is to use a registry tool to scan the system, quarantine errors, and then remove the ones that are causing problems. There are many programs out there. Before you buy one, do your homework first. You want a registry tool that performs a comprehensive scan, but doesn't go too far. The best registry tools take a conservative approach, only deleting files that are not vital to the overall function of the registry. Some registry tools just delete everything. Stay away from these software programs!

You also want a registry tool that performs a system backup, in case errors do somehow get made. And make sure to find a registry tool that performs defragmentation. This is an important process to keeping the computer running at an optimal level.
