By: Mark Bishop

Out of all the mobile phone add-ons like wallpapers, screensavers and logos, mobile ringtones have got the most attention. These days, everyone seems to have personalized ringtones in their mobile phones. The growth in the mobile phone tone market has confirmed its position in the music industry. Today, mobile tones are overtaking CD sales and now account for more than 10% of the global music market.

Earlier, people thought that the monophonic tones of the late 1900s would evolve into the multi-billion dollar market. But following the arrival of polyphonic ringtones in 2003, monophonic ringtones have gone behind. It is because of the ringtones, this mobile market has reached beyond expectations. The key to its success is to the creation of the whole product that is full customisation of phones with mobile tones, wallpapers, screensavers, logos, picture messages and mobile games. This has led to the rise in consumer demand and choice. Thanks to the advances in sound quality and the use of MP3 and real music which has contributed to the growth in the ringtone market and given rise to real tones or true tones.

A number of websites are giving away free ringtones, free games, and wallpapers increasing their popularity with number of people downloading them. Consumers are getting so used to them that they are willing to pay to get them. Mobile ringtones have attracted consumers so much that they cannot imagine their mobile phone without their favourite ringtones. The ringtone business is becoming even more lucrative as consumers shift from buying polyphonic ringtones to the more expensive real tones, which are copies of the actual recording. The global market for all mobile content is still growing and the quality of ringtones has grown as mobile phone technology has improved.
