Online Jobs for Teens - are They Right for You?

By: Adam Hefner

What is a teenager to do in his spare time? Why not find a cool online job for teens? The internet is a vast, rich market place much like the local shopping mall, and job opportunities abound for excited and motivated individuals. Just a single Yahoo or Google search will turn up hundreds of responses.

So many teens find themselves in a strange predicament: stuck at home on spring break with homework and household obligations. They have time to themselves, but not enough time to actually get out of the house. What is a teen to do? Really, it all depends on the rewards and compensation desired.

In an effort to earn spare money and find an engaging activity, teens turn to the Internet - an unbiased, work-at-will, equal opportunity employer - to find online jobs.

The internet offers on line jobs such as filing rebate forms, completing surveys, providing graduate students with research subjects, reviewing valuable and marketable prodcuts - even writing essays!

This is a bonus for teens because these on line jobs require little or no experience and teach valuable lessons about hard work and perseverance. It's also a terrific way to earn money because most of these tasks take very little time to complete; perhaps only 20 seconds on one task or as much as two minutes on another task.

One possible downside is that money earned through these programs can only be spent on line - unless mom or dad helps the teen transfer the money to a bank account. Another downside is that these jobs pay very little and that quite a lot of work must be finished before payment is collected. Of course, none of these jobs have supervisor or a "boss" who will demand perfect quality from these on line workers. Will the teenager complete the work satisfactorily, or will the teen excel and receive high marks?

These online opportunities probably won't replace jobs in the traditional sense of the "Nine to Five," but they are certainly a novel way to engage the mind and distract the teen from the day-to-day drama in schools and in the local hang-outs. The value and draw of these jobs is in the adventure and the opportunity; the tasks are often changed day to day, require flexibility, and demand perseverance - elements which can help make an otherwise boring task a cool online job for teens.
