Do You Know How To Get Cheap Home Insurance?

By: Davidhill
Everyone wants to protect their interests these days, and with the state of the economy as it is you cannot afford not to. After all, how many of you could afford to replace all of your possessions if you lost them? How could you afford to rebuild your home? Everything that means anything to the average person, family and friends aside, is in his or her home so it is imperative to protect it whenever possible. Cheap home insurance allows you to do just that.

Home insurance does not have to be as expensive as you think. Mrs Andrews used to pay 339 pounds for home contents insurance but, after obtaining a quote through the Cooperative Bank, found she could save 201 pounds because of all of the following criteria that she met, and which you could meet and save money on too.

For starters, your postcode matters. If your postcode is identified as a low crime postcode then you will almost certain receive a cheap home insurance quote compared to that of a high crime postcode district. As such, certain postcodes will elevate your premiums but others will lower it.

The second point is your home insurance behaviour. You are more likely to obtain cheap home insurance if you have never claimed on your house policy, or at least have not done so within a period of five years. Claiming on home insurance will elevate your quote because average statistics predict that you are deemed more likely to do so again.

Another factor that plays a big part is the security of your home. The more secure your home, the less you will pay for home insurance as a general rule. If you have a working home alarm system then this will be taken into account. Having no alarm system at all will elevate your quote, as will having one that does not work. You are not asked whether you use your alarm as a general rule, but you will be asked whether you have one or not.

Another element of security that will help you to save you money is having a lock on every door and window that can be secured using a key mechanism. All locks have to be operated with a key for the low premium to count. Having deadbolts on the door will also save you money but having safety locks that do not require a key to undo will not.

Finally, the susceptibility of your home to natural occurrences will also affect your premiums. If your home has ever experienced subsidence or flooding of any sort then your premiums will be higher. With some providers, you might not even be able to get cover at all. However, if your home has never experienced either then low premiums are a distinct possibility.

All of the above adds up to getting a cheap home insurance policy. As you can see, it is possible to save money on it as long as the company you choose as a provider asks you the right questions!
