Making Character Cakes (and More!) With Wilton Cake Pans

By: Dayton Rowland

Every child loves some kind of character. Your boy may love R2-D2 or C-3PO from Star Wars. Or maybe it's Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. Or maybe you have a girl that likes the Care Bears or Minnie Mouse. Some aren't quite obsessed with characters - maybe your little Bill Gates loves computers!

Your child's birthday comes around and you want to make a cake that they will love! The first thought in your mind is to put your child's favorite character on it. Sure, you can make a cake that has the character simply ON it. Or you can get a cake pan in the shape of his or her favorite character and make a cake in the shape of it!

Wilton offers many different types of cake pans. They offer countless cake pans in practically every category that you can imagine. You can get characters such as Disney characters, Star Wars characters, Spider-Man, Superman, Care Bears, Super Mario, Dora the Explorer, and more! Or you can get cake pans in the shape of things that could represent their hobbies, such as guitars, computers, sports cars, footballs, and more! You can also get "seasonal" cake pans for holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and more! And last but not least, Wilton cake pans aren't just for baking cakes for kids. You can get Wilton cake pans in shapes such as a slot machine or a beer mug - perfect for your "grown-up" friends!

Some Wilton cake pans can be purchased new in cake decorating stores or chain stores such as Michaels, since these pans are still manufactured by Wilton. However many cake pans (and often the most popular ones) can only be purchased on the Internet. These cake pans are often referred to as "discontinued" or "retired". Some of these sell for next to nothing, such as cake pans of 1980s "fad" characters such as Cabbage Patch Kids and Strawberry Shortcake. But some can sell for over $50, in particular many Star Wars cake pans.
