Manchester is situated in the north west of the uk was given city status in 1853. A big city, it boasts a population of over 450,000, which makes it the 14th most densely populated city in Europe.

Manchester rose to prominence in the nineteeth century, when it was at the middle of the industrial revolution. The city was ideal for the textile trade as it was humid, as well as a capable supply of water.
