Leeds is a big and prosperous city, which is centrally located in the North of England. The City is well known as the commercial and tourist capital of the North and has long been known for its sizeable manufacturing industry, which is still going strong.

Many industries have added to Leeds' finances, but the city is particularly renowned for its clothes trade. There are a number of renowned names associated with the city, including Thomas Chippendale who began constructing his renowned furniture there, and Michael Marks - of m & s - who opened his first Penny Bazaar there in 1884.

As well as this, it is also home to the historic Kirkgate Market. The market is Europe’s 2nd biggest indoor market after Leicester and is open 6 days every single week. There are over four hundred stalls inside the market and another two hundred outside. It attracts over 100 thousand visitors every week.

Kirkgate Market was established in 1822 as an open air market & the first inside sections were built between 1850 and 1875. Unfortunately, most of the building, except the Vicar Lane frontage, was ruined in a 1975 fire. despite this, the Market was refurbished in the early 1990s & following this, Kirkgate Market was upgraded from a Grade II to a Grade I listed building.
