Disney World - Orlando Florida

By: Mikemulkern
Every child is excited when they hear from their parents that they are going to Disney World. It is every kid's dream. Children are truly excited to me going there. Only the Christmas season is probably more exciting to any child.

Florida is the capital for all theme parks, it was 40 years ago that Walt Disney opened his first park, this being the first of many more to come. Universal studios, which is a working studio, also has another park called Islands of Adventure. This offers a number of big thrill rides.

There are so many activities in the Orlando area that families should plan to spend a minimum of one week. You could keep plenty busy for two weeks, depending on your budget.

The Magic Kingdom is probably known by everyone and to most people, this is Disney world itself. This is the home of Donald Duck, Goofy, Mickey Mouse and we cannot miss Cinderella's Castle every little girls dream. There are a number of smaller kingdoms, each offering a number of rides and shows. Do not miss out on the Light Parade, which starts around 9pm and make sure to get a good vantage point.

What's that big ball, not far in the distance. Well it's Epcot. It's Disney's park for technical innovation and international culture. The big ball is actually Spaceship Earth. There is actuall a time machine ride inside. Epcot is a great place to sample foods form around the world. there are also many fun rides and fireworks nightly.

Looking for something a little wilder? Go check out Animal Kingdom. This was Disney's fourth park and opened in 1998. This park is theme totally around animal conservation. It's a big park so get there early to enjoy it the most. Your children will love it.

Disney has two themed water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach is dominated by Mount Gushmore, a man-made mountain where water rushes down the sides of the mountain. Typhoon Lagoon has the world's largest outdoor man-made wave pool. It also has a 50 foot geyser that erupts every half hour. Both parks are fun for the family and a great way to spend a hot Florida day.

Don't forget attractions outside of Disney. Sea World Orlando is great for the whole family. Watch Shamu, the killer whale, do his tricks. You can also see the dolphins, otters, seals, sea lions, sea turtles, manatees, sharks, stingrays, and penguins. You'll see sea birds also. Don't forget Sea World is is also about rides. They are building a new flying roller coaster, Manta, scheduled to open next year. For now you can enjoy Kraken, their "floorless" roller coaster.

Many choices await the traveler to Orlando and Disney. It mostly depends on convenience and money. You can stay at Disney World and take the monorail everywhere or stay in Orlando in any hotel chain you want. Be sure to look for your place early and if you can go when school is in session, crowds and prices will be a little less.
