By: Douglas Scott

Dayton is a city in Southwest Ohio. It is the centre of a much larger metropolitan area in southwest Ohio, known as the Miami Valley. The area includes a number of smaller towns and suburbs.

A mid sized city within a metropolitan area that includes almost a million residents

Founded on April 1, 1976, by a small group of US settlers seven years before the admission of Ohio to the Union in 1803. The town was incorporated in 1805 and given its name after Jonathan Dayton, a captain in the American Revolutionary War and signer of the US Constitution.

Dayton prides itself on big city amenities coupled with mid western charm and hospitality. With over 7,000 hotel and motel rooms and facilities.

The largest shopping mall is located near by and three additional malls are located throughout greater Dayton.

Theyre as diverse as an authentically reconstructed Indian village and an art deco style showroom for classic cars and the offerings are as eclectic as a bicycle made by the fathers of flight and priceless paintings crafted by master artists. No matter how varied your interests, Dayton boasts a wealth of attractions that are sure to educate and entertain making it one of the few places with enough destinations to appease both your colleagues and your kids.

The mission of The Dayton Art Institute is to provide a diverse audience with knowledge, pleasure, cultural awareness and sensitivity to the visual environment by collecting, exhibiting and preserving the fine arts, promoting and cultivating aesthetic values in the visual arts and providing exposure to the arts through a variety of structured and unstructured learning experiences.

Daring air and ground shows make up this thrilling aviation festival. Adults and children are invited to watch stunt pilots, wing walkers, and parachute teams defy the laws of gravity. Onlookers are also able to see how the aviation industry has advanced technology by comparing military planes as they were many years ago to the aircraft we use in combat today.

Modern architecture and historical landmarks are found in the central city, while the surrounding communities offer comfortable suburban lifestyles. There is a wide selection of apartments, condominiums, and houses at reasonable costs. Primary and secondary education is in abundance in public, parochial and private school systems.

The birthplace of aviation, since the inventors of powered flight Wilbur and Orville Wright once lived there. It has a great deal to offer visitors, as it is home to appealing museums, countless shops and an attractive parks system, not to mention immense historic charm.
